PORT ANGELES — Klahowya Campground in Olympic National Forest will be closed until next spring beginning early today for water system upgrades.
The U.S. Forest Service recreation site is 45 miles west of Port Angeles and just off the south bank of the Sol Duc River, which is accessible from the campground via short trails.
Klahowya will reopen in May after a new well is drilled to provide potable water to the 56-site campground.
The double-vault toilet and the roof on the flush-toilet restrooms also will be replaced and a 3,560-foot water line installed.
There are five vault and flush toilets at the campground. Most of the sites accommodate trailers and 30-foot RVs.
The project is funded with the fees collected at the site and appropriated funds.
