EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to consider funding public works projects

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider approving money for six public works projects — including money for the Port of Port Townsend’s south jetty renovation — when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The six projects are on the consent agenda.

Among them is $150,000 for the Point Hudson South Jetty Renovation Project which was requested by the Port of Port Townsend.

Others are the Quilcene Complete Streets Project, the Seventh Street Corridor Construction Project, the Fort Worden Employee Housing, Quilcene Water Tank Project and the Water Street Telecom Infrastructure Project.

Other item on the consent agenda include:

• A professional services agreement for $14, 905 with HWA GeoSciences Inc., for inspection of the South Discovery Road Pavement Preservation Project.

• A change order that will decrease the contract with Allen Sherer Trucking & Landscape Supply from $355,547 to an estimated $345,703.

• A $67,000 increase in state funding for Memorial Field lighting.

• A contract with the Jefferson County Public Utility District for $25,000 to have the county provide noxious weed control on PUD right of ways.

Commissioners will consider proclaiming this week as National Police Week and observing Wednesday as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.

Commissioners will be updated on the progress of the Port Hadlock Wastewater Project. No action will be taken.

At 10:30 a.m., commissioners will conduct a public hearing on an update of the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance, and will consider adopting it.

At 10:50 a.m., they will hear about timber sales for the first quarter from the state Department of Natural Resources.

Commissioners will be introduced to a draft public nuisance ordinance at the county administrator briefing at 1:30 p.m.

No action is to be taken.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will conduct a public hearing on interim land use regulations for the Rainier Street/ Upper Sims Way Subarea Plan and consider taking action when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council also will consider establishing a revolving line of credit and providing for sale of $1.5 million in general obligation bonds to repay the city’s existing line of credit and finance capital improvements.

Council members will consider directing the Parks, Recreation and Tree Advisory Board to review and recommend rules and signage for a dog park, adopting 2018 supplemental budget appropriations and adopting a flood insurance study.

The council will hear a presentation on code compliance priorities.

The council will recess into an executive session to discuss current or potential litigation.

Other city committee meetings, which will be in council chambers at historic City Hall at 540 Water St., are:

• Council Rules Committee — 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

• Council Housing Committee — 3 p.m. Thursday, council chambers at historic City Hall at 540 Water St.

Board of Health

The Jefferson County Board of Health will consider a proposed amendment to county regulations to prohibit vaping in public places and places of employment when it meets at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet at Jefferson County Public Health, 615 Sheridan St., Port Townsend.

It also will consider supporting a call for the U.S. to sign the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nu- clear Weapons.

It will consider proposed amendments of the county solid waste code and receive updates on Jefferson Healthcare and indoor air quality.

Fort Worden PDA

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority Executive Committee will discuss the State Parks capital budget when it meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Fort Worden Seminar Building 297.

The panel also will discuss the bid process for Makers Square, hear an update on glamping and upcoming events and examine a branding process.

North Olympic Lead Entity for Salmon

The Technical Review Group of the North Olympic Lead Entity for Salmon will hear about research into impacts to salmon at the Hood Canal Bridge when they meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The meeting will be at the Elwha Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., in Port Angeles.

The salmon study is by Hans Daubenberger of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and Megan Moore of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Members also will consider a recommendation request for Returned Project Funding and/or Rapid Response Funding from the Puget Sound Partnership, along with other ongoing efforts to advance salmon restoration and protection.

Peninsula College

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will meet at the Port Townsend campus at Fort Worden at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Building 202.
