EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to consider bid for solid waste abatement in Port Hadlock

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider affirming Rollins Auto Wrecking as the successful bidder for solid waste abatement at 890 Old Hadlock Road in Port Hadlock when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

One executive session is planned for 11:10 a.m. on potential litigation; another is set for 3 p.m on actual litigation.

Bids for the solid waste abatement on the Port Hadlock property were solicited by the county Environmental Public Health Department. The department is asking commissioners to reaffirm its choice.

Estimated expenses are $54,357. The HHS site abatement found will cover $22,897 and the county public health’s abatement program will cover the remaining $31,460.

Environmental Public Health will bill the property owner.

Commissioners at 10 a.m. will open submitted bids for the house at 161 Rodgers St, in Quilcene.

Commissioners will consider a resolution proposed by the Salish Behavioral Health Organization in support of creating a pilot for the clinical integration of Medicaid-funded behavioral health and physical health. Clallam County has already adopted the resolution, and Kitsap County was considering it last week.

They will consider a letter in support of a state Department of Natural Resources application for a grant to acquire private and public properties in Dabob Bay.

At 1:30 p.m., they will be briefed on the Olympic Experimental State Forest near Forks and will discuss providing county volunteers the same indemnity protection provided county officers and employees.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• A five-year contract — $198,000 per year — with the state Department of Transportation for pavement marking on some West Jefferson County roads.

• An agreement that the North Olympic Salmon Coalition will engage middle school students in environmental education. A state Department of Fish and Wildlife grant will cover costs.

Port Townsend City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will an update on the East Jefferson Fire Rescue Joint Oversight Board when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The city and East Jefferson Fire Rescue are working together to put a measure for joint operation of fire services on the February ballot

Council members will hear reports on updated plans for the Rainier/Upper Sims Way Subarea and on the regional economic diversification summit.

They will consider a resolution establishing the Port Townsend Library Advisory Board, its scope of work and its task.

Other city committee meetings, which are in conference rooms at City Hall, 250 Madison St., unless otherwise noted are:

• City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Committees — 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, council chambers at 540 Water St.

• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee — 3 p.m. Tuesday, third-floor conference room.

• Planning Commission — 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, council chambers, 540 Water St. The panel will discuss housing code amendments and a letter from the chairman about a request to extend public comment for developers who want to weigh in on code revisions.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will continue discussions about the draft leasing policy when they meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The workshop will be in chambers at 333 Benedict St.

Chimacum School Board

The Chimacum School Board will discuss possible remedies for declining enrollment when it meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

Superintendent Rick Thompson is recommending the creation of a task force to study enrollment challenges.

Thompson also will review professional goals for the school year.

The board will consider action on policies regarding federal cash and financial management and continuity of operations.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare hospital commissioners will discuss goverance when they meet from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The special session will be in the Victor J. Dirksen Conference Room on the first floor of 834 Sheridan St., Port Townsend.

Among the topics to be discussed are meeting objectives, agendas, group guidelines and board issues.

Marine Resources Committee

The Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee hear a guest speaker on Northwest Straits Commission’s plans when it meet sat 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The monthly meeting will be at the WSU Extension Classroom, 97 Oak Bay Road, Port Hadlock.

The speaker will be Luca Hart, director of the Northwest Straits Commission.

The panel also will discuss projects concerning Olympia oysters, rain gardens, shoreline monitoring, no-anchor zones, kelp monitoring and education and outreach.
