SEQUIM — Clallam County is gearing up for the possibility of any number of emergencies — earthquakes, fires, floods, etc. — and officials are seeking your help.
A Hazard Mitigation Plan public input meeting is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 17 in the Sequim Civic Center council chambers, 152 W. Cedar St.
This multi-jurisdictional plan identifies the most likely hazards that might impact the North Olympic Peninsula and indicates what community members can do to decrease risks posed by such situations.
The meeting will introduce attendees to hazard mitigation planning and offers an opportunity for them to give perspective on how Clallam County’s emergency responders can better address hazards.
“Your attendance is very important to ensure the plan has a positive affect for all community members,” Undersheriff Ron Cameron said in a press release.
In addition, an online survey is available to share concerns and comments at tinyurl.com/PDN-Hazard.
Hazard mitigation planning is important, Cameron said, in that it not only allows the county to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency funding in the event of a disaster, but also lays a plan down on paper as to what should be done in the event of an emergency.
“As events across the globe have shown, having a plan in place in the event of a crisis can help save lives and money,” he said.
