PORT ANGELES — City council candidate Jacob Oppelt announced Monday he will suspend his campaign.
The former candidate said he has contacted his opponent, Mike French, to congratulate him.
Oppelt sent out the following email, which has been confirmed:
“Due to a recent change in residence I am unfortunately forced to suspend my campaign indefinitely. Pending a real estate transaction, my current residence, albeit temporarily, is located just outside of the Port Angeles city limits. I’ve reviewed the RCW and have spoken with our county auditor’s department and have found no way around this. My voter registration address will change just before the election and I would then be an unqualified candidate. I’ve spoken with my opponent Mike French to congratulate him and give him my support moving forward governing our city. I still remain very actively involved within the private sector, and will surely look to contribute forward thinking to our City government as we look to a healthy and prosperous future for our community. The tremendous support I’ve been shown from family, friends, and fellow community members throughout this campaign is truly and greatly appreciated.”
