This privacy policy ("Policy") applies to all Web sites in the Horvitz Newspapers network of Web sites, including, www.peninsuladailynews.com and www.sequimthisweek.com (collectively the "Sites"). The Sites are owned and operated by Northwest Media (Washington), L.P., ("Company” "we" or "us"). This Policy is designed to tell you how we collect and use personal information (as defined below) so you can make an informed decision about using our Sites. This policy does not apply to third-party sites. By using any of our Sites, you consent to the information collection and use practices described herein. This Policy may be changed at any time and is effective as of the date posted above. Material changes to this Policy will appear in boldface text. Prior versions will be archived for your review.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION

"Personal information" means information collected online that specifically identifies an individual (such as a user's name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, credit card or other account number) or that is connected by the Company with an identifiable person in personally identifiable form. Personal information does not include "aggregate" information, which is data we collect from which any personal information has been removed. For example, information that forty-seven percent of the Site's registered users identify themselves as male, but without identifying any specific individuals as male, is aggregate information. We collect aggregate data for a number of purposes, including to help us understand trends and user needs so that we can better consider new publications, products and services, and tailor existing publications, products and services to user desires.

HOW DO WE COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Personal information may be collected in a number of ways when you visit our Sites. First, we collect certain personal information you voluntarily provide to us (if you subscribe to or renew a publication, submit a classified ad or letter to the editor, sign up for an online service, apply for a job, fill out a form or register for an event, or submit a comment or complaint). You may also provide us with credit card information to pay for subscriptions, ads, events and other purchases which is only used to process the transaction. Second, from time to time we may collect demographic information from postings you make in forums or any other interactive areas of the Sites, your answers to surveys or polls, your participation in sweepstakes, contests, games and promotional offers; and in any email request you send us for any reason.

Third, when you visit our Sites, some information is also automatically collected through the use of log files, such as your computer's Internet Protocol (IP) address, your computer's operating system, the browser type, the address of a referring web site and your activity on the Sites. We use this information to analyze trends, administer the Sites, improve customer service, track user movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. We may also automatically collect certain information through ”cookies," which are small data files that are stored on a user's hard drive at the request of a Web site to enable the site to recognize users who have previously visited them and retain certain information such as customer preferences and history. If cookies are linked to any personally identifying information, we treat this information as personal information. If your browser is set not to accept cookies, you may be unable to access certain Site features or services. If you wish to block, erase, or be warned of cookies, please refer to your browser instructions or help screen to learn about these functions.

We may use third parties to serve ads on the Sites or to collect, track and analyze non-personally identifiable usage and volume statistical information from users, such as the user's browser type, operating system, browsing behavior and demographic information. None of this information will include personal information about you. These third parties may place cookies, web beacons or other devices on your computer to collect nonpersonal information, and information provided by these devices may be used, among other things, to deliver advertising targeted to your interests and to better understand the usage and visitation of our Sites and the other sites tracked by these third parties.

We are not responsible for and do not control any actions or policies of any third party advertising technology service providers or of any third party members of any related advertising networks. You may click here to opt out of targeted advertising from  members of the Network Advertising Initiative ("NAI").  Opting out of targeted advertising does not mean you will no longer see online advertising on the Sites. It means that the network from which you opted out will no longer deliver ads tailored to your Web preferences and usage patterns. If you change computers or browsers, or use multiple computers or browsers, you will need to repeat this process for each computer and each browser. We reserve the right to add or change the advertising technology vendors we use at any time without notice.

In addition, we may partner with other sites or organizations to provide specific information, site features, programs or services and will share information with them as needed in order to facilitate their provision of such items or services subject to this Policy. Personal information may be disclosed as part of any merger, acquisition, debt financing, sale of company assets, as well as in the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy or receivership in which personally identifiable information could be transferred to third parties as one of the business assets of the Company.

The Sites may contain links to other sites or be linked through sites operated by third parties that are not under our control. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third parties and their sites.
