I am writing to endorse Mary Ellen Winborn for director of community development.
I supported Mary Ellen when she ran for DCD and have been impressed with the way she has served her term.
During this time, she faced many challenges.
Among them was a disorganized, demoralized department staffed by good people who lacked leadership and guidance. Another challenge was what I can only describe as the carpetbagger mentality of outsiders who sought to come into our community with high-powered lawyers to intimidate Clallam County officials into giving away our lands, our water and our rights.
Those of us who know Mary Ellen know her as a soft-spoken Southern lady.
Well, that lady has a spine of steel.
Over and over, she has stood against outside interests to protect all of us, our property rights, our quality of life and our county.
Don’t let the carpetbaggers win.
