LETTER: Washington goes the way of California

I mourn for all the victims of the murders at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

It appears the strict California gun laws including the state mandate for gun-free zones and limiting magazine capacities are not working so well.

There were no armed citizens to protect the victims except the brave law enforcement officer, Sgt. Ron Helus, who became a victim himself while responding to help and was taken by surprise.

They were an unguarded flock of sheep being attacked by a psychopathic wolf.

I’m extremely dismayed that Washington is following California’s failing attempt to keep us safe from gun violence.

Just recently, anti-Second Amendment gun prohibitionist billionaires bought the constitutional rights of lawful Washington gun owners by contributing enormously to the vote Yes On I-1639 campaign to further their misguided attempt to ultimately disarm all law-abiding citizens except, of course, their armed security.

With the passage of this initiative it basically hobbles the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves among other ludicrous requirements to prevent gun violence.

It appears that the citizens who voted yes for the initiative blindly and mistakenly, and perhaps rather stupidly, feel they are now a lot safer from gun violence.

Unfortunately, now we are all becoming an unguarded flock of sheep and so it seems the worst part about all this is, as they say, “You can’t fix stupid.”
