Regarding the “Political strategies” letter (PDN, June, 15-16): To compare American children removed from their convicted parents for a number of reasons (e.g., drugs, violence, DUI, and other arrests) to children removed from their parents seeking asylum at the Mexican border constitutes a false, contentious comparison.
The asylum seekers are attempting to escape persecution and danger; they are not facing punishment for crimes committed in their countries of origin.
The writer’s ill-founded comparison helps dim America’s fountain of light that the world is questioning.
