LETTER: Toepper sparks reader’s interest for PUD seat

Jefferson County’s Public Utility District commissioner candidate Dan Toepper is the one candidate that sparks my interest and enthusiasm.

“Returning Power to the People” is Dan’s slogan.

With no hidden agenda, no party affiliation and no personal profit to be made, he’s committed to doing what’s best for you and me.

After all, that’s why the public utility was created five years ago, to serve the public, you and me.

Dan’s impressive endorsements include: Teamsters Joint Count 28, Olympic Labor Council, Olympic Peninsula Building Trades, IBEW Local 77, LiUNA Local 252, Operating Engineers Local 302.

Attending years of PUD meetings, hearings and workshops, serving on the PUD Citizen Advisory Board, Dan has encyclopedic knowledge of the PUD and its process, I believe.

Dan was born and raised in Jefferson County.

I admire his strong blue-collar work ethic: working on environmental clean-up, habitat restoration, infrastructure installation including water, power, sewer, storm water systems, etc., and never afraid to get his hands dirty.

Dan believes the PUD has a larger role to play in emergency preparedness with the county and region.

Just as I strongly appreciate and thank every utility worker out in the field who put their lives on the line every time there’s a windstorm, accident or power-outage. I appreciate Dan’s concern to be prepared.

I may not always remember to correctly pronounce Toepper — rhymes with super — but I will never forget why I believe in Dan.
