LETTER: Slam on candidate McEntire is unjustified

Unfair slam

A recent letter to the editor, “Consider record,” delivered a back-handed compliment to county commissioner Bill Peach and a full body slam to state representative candidate Jim McEntire.

According to the letter, commissioner candidate Mike Doherty is singularly responsible for all that was harmonious and good on previous boards of county commissioners.

This revelation would be quite a shock to former board member Martha Ireland who documented her time on the board with Mr. Doherty in a Sept. 27 letter entitled, “Peach merits another term as Clallam Commissioner.”

One need not look to the past to gain perspective on Doherty.

On Oct. 30, in remarks to the board as a private citizen, Doherty got in the face of all three commissioners, accusing them of violating transparency laws for public officials, without presenting the least bit of evidence (http://clallam.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=414).

Then he coolly demanded that each one of them ‘fess up to their crime.

Given that, if elected, he would have to work with two of the folks he just off-handedly defamed.

This is hardly the behavior of one who promotes peace, harmony and good will.

The slam against McEntire is clearly unjustified.

He steered Clallam County through tough economic times, advanced a jobs-boosting agenda prevailing over an illegally disruptive county treasurer and was even able to cut our taxes.

He will be a great asset for us, the people, in Olympia.
