LETTER: President’s lies and insults have U.S. careening

On the day after the 2016 election the Peninsula Daily News published my letter “Impending Storm,” (PDN, Nov. 13).

The letter was intended as a warning.

After close to one year, America has seen what governing looks like under Republican control.

The president’s approval rating hovers around 32 percent, according to media reports.

We now know “there are many fine people” among white supremacists and neo-Nazis who marched in Charlottesville, Va. ending in the death of Heather Heyer (Atlantic magazine, Aug. 15).

The Republican drafted tax overhaul bill, the only major legislation our Congress will pass in one year is opposed by about 58 percent of Americans, according to media reports.

The tax benefits for their populist base is about zero.

In political vernacular, this is known as “bait and switch.”

Their domestic policy consists of eliminating protections for consumers and our environment.

Their foreign policy consists of gutting the State Department.

The Republican National Committee support for a credibly accused pedophile, Roy Moore, who ran for the U.S. Senate is repugnant.

Our president, a demagogue, perpetual liar and clinical sociopath, who can’t open his mouth without insulting some individual, group, or institution, wishes America warm holiday greetings.

Can our democracy survive another year?

Bart Kavruck,

Port Townsend
