LETTER: Nichols the choice for Clallam prosecuting attorney

Vote for Nichols

And the accusations fly.

I’m grateful that I don’t live in that maelstrom known as Washington, D.C.

There, insults, assassinations and lies are lobbed daily, like live grenades.

By so-called civilized folks, no less.

However, it appears that sort of political nonsense has crept into one Clallam County race this year.

The campaign for prosecuting attorney has featured many untrue accusations by a candidate seeking to unseat current prosecutor Mark Nichols.

Many comments by his opponent on her website and in public appearances haven’t been cluttered by that inconvenience known as truth.

For example: Mr. Nichols sued her while she was the county treasurer.

That did not happen.

Read the documents: Clallam County sued the treasurer.

Why?

Because she refused to follow the law by turning over records to county officials, thereby exposing Clallam County, and us taxpayers, to liability.

Another example: Barkhuis alleges that the defendant Mark Nichols violated “some very basic rules and settled a public records case.”

Wrong again.

Nichols was not named as a party in this case, in either his official or personal capacity.

Nor did he settle the case.

Instead the county commissioners settled.

Wow.

A thinking person can only come to one conclusion: Vote for Mark Nichols.

Paul Martin,

Port Angeles
