LETTER: Need good, just laws — not southern border wall

I remember the Berlin airlift.

I remember when the Berlin Wall went up.

I remember soldiers walking along the wall on both sides.

I remember the propaganda speeches by our government, condemning the wall.

I remember the photos of shootings on both sides of the the wall.

Finally, I remember the joy when the wall came down: Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” was performed and souvenir pieces of the wall multiplied in the free world.

Who will write denunciations against the U.S. should President Donald Trump’s wall go up, perhaps even built by our own military?

Fellow citizens, we do not need a wall.

We only need good and just laws, laws infused with compassion and an understanding of human rights.

We need to protect the dignity of all people, not just those with the funds to buy their rights.

We need to remember the Statue of Liberty and for what she stands.
