LETTER: Need for scientific information about gender reassignment

Transplant recipients often reject organ donations when the immune system performs its natural function by sending cells or antibodies to destroy what is foreign.

The immune system is not capable of thought or realizing the transplanted organ has been placed to preserve the life of the body.

The donated organ is helpless against this attack.

The brain is dependent on the information it receives to determine the need for the new organ.

Medical decisions require accurate information.

All tissues of the infant predominately carry either the XY chromosome for males, or the XX chromosome for females.

Tissues forming the breasts, muscles, bone structure, fat distribution and genitals have been created to respond to male hormones if they have the XY chromosome and female hormones if they have the XX chromosomes.

What happens when an XY tissue receives XX hormones?

It is just as helpless as the donated organ being attacked by the immune system.

Even worse is the body that is subjected to gender reassignment surgery.

Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic, a sex reassignment surgeon, has reported many men who transitioned to women regret having the procedure in “Doctoring the truth about male and female” published Oct. 25 (www.frc.org).

They want their male organ reattached which is problematic, costly and can be confusing.

In Sweden, the suicide rate for people who identify as transgender is 19 times higher than the general population.

What to do?
