LETTER: Navy jet noise a noisance for real estate values

Back in 2006, while shopping for a home here in Washington, I was looking at Whidbey Island because the prices there were half of what they are here in Port Angeles.

While waiting in line for the ferry at Keystone to Port Townsend, three Navy jets seemed to be doing touch-and-go practice at an airfield just above the ferry terminal.

Every time they went past my truck, I swear it just about changed lanes in the waiting area for the ferry.

That noise was extremely loud, and I realized why the house prices on Whidbey Island were half of what they were here (at that time).

Is the Navy going to pony up the billions of dollars in the lost real estate value here on the Peninsula?

It’s time for Olympia to go after the Navy and chase them out of the state.

William B. Roby,
