LETTER: Like adults, children need to be prepared for disaster

Disaster prep talks are beneficial for all concerned.

Let us not forget our children.

Adults are preparing in ways to provide their homes with food, water, emergency equipment and medical equipment.

How many homes are including their children in planning for a disaster?

How many schools are giving their students, of all ages, needed information to survive if the student is away from home?

Also, teaching that it may be necessary for older children to help the younger children, if adults are not around.

Encouraging responsibility for self and then helping others may save lives.

Our fire departments and first responders hopefully are using our schools’ auditoriums to give needed information to the teachers and students about how to prepare themselves and know where supplies are at school as well as in their homes, in case of any disaster.

We have many young people who are fortunate enough to realize a disaster can happen and are prepared mentally to deal with such.

And then we have those who are bored with the thought, until a disaster hits and they learn the hard way when reality sets in.

Sometimes it takes repeating that a disaster can happen in our area and we all have to be prepared.
