LETTER: Kudos to Roosevelt Elementary for state honors

Front page news

There was a wonderful article in the last week’s special edition of the Port Angeles School District that was included in my newspaper.

I was surprised — and disappointed — that the news wasn’t on the front page of the paper.

We have an outstanding school system here and one of them was recognized for their accomplishments.

Roosevelt Elementary School received an award from Washington State’s Center for Educational Effectiveness for being a “School of Distinction” in Washington State.

Only 26 schools out of 295 school districts received this award.

That’s pretty impressive.

The award was to “celebrate school staff, students and leaders who improve performance for all students over a sustained perios in English language arts and mathematics.”

Congratulations to everyone at Roosevelt Elementary School — from the principal to the teachers, to the support staff and the parents — and the kids themselves — for this honor.

It does “take a village” to raise our kids and this school definitely demonstrated that.

Darlene Clemens,

Port Angeles
