LETTER: Grateful to Hair School, Cancer Society for wig program

Look like themselves

The Peninsula Daily News’ Feb. 25 article “Looking like herself again” brought back happy memories to me and my husband.

About a year ago, I, too, received wigs though the American Cancer Society via Studio 121 School of Cosmetology in Port Angeles.

I’m so grateful for that program and the personal treatment offered by Shara Smith (owner) and the students there.

They did a fine job of fitting me with two natural wigs.

They also gave me a real personal lift by being compassionate and enthusiastic.

They helped give me confidence that chemo and surgery had taken away.

I want to thank Studio 121 School and the Cancer Society for helping so many in this positive way.

The program is made possible because people give monetarily and give ponytails to the American Cancer Society.

Sometimes when we give even small support to big agencies, we wonder if it helps “little people.”

Well, if everything is going according to the program, you will not be able to tell me.

It could be me or Dawn Saize — shopping next to you — wearing our Cancer Society wigs and they are styled so naturally that we “look like ourselves again.”
