LETTER: Fine print a filter for advertisements, pamphlets

Informed voting

We are being bombarded with literature urging either a pro or con vote on the propositions appearing on this ballot.

The information is confusing and contradictory.

I want to share what I do to help me be an informed voter.

Before reading through the information, I look to see who sponsored and paid for the ad.

This gives me a filter through which to examine and evaluate the “facts” that are presented.

I do the same thing with the voter pamphlet that came in the mail from the state.

Look to see who wrote the pro and con and think about what bias may be there on the issue.

It doesn’t mean the viewpoint is wrong or right.

It means you, as the voter, get to decide.

Our democracy survives only when we have informed voter participation.
