LETTER: Elected officials think they’re above the law

I emailed the governor, urging him to veto ESB-6617.

I already had emailed Reps. Chapman and Tharinger days ago with questions about the bill.

Representative Chapman responded swiftly, telling me it is his intention to release everything requested, although he did not answer my direct question: What is the definition of “constituent” under this bill?

I have yet to hear anything from Rep. Tharinger.

I didn’t bother emailing Senator Van de Wege, as I expected no substantive response, given past interactions with him before he assumed his present status in the Senate.

I am seriously disappointed in all our area’s elected state officials for this end run around the court decision and the lack of public comment in the lockstep stampede to approve this elitist bill.

It is just one more example to me of our elected officials’ attitude of being above the rules, mores and expectations that their plebian constituents themselves follow and expect those they elect to also follow.

Lourene O’Brien,

Port Angeles
