LETTER: Double-barreled bloviating from Friedman, Harrop

Double-barreled

The double-barreled Trump-bashing blast delivered by Thomas Friedman and Froma Harrop (PDN, May 13) was an unwelcome topping for my breakfast cereal.

As a former Friedman fan, I lament his transition to yet another liberal Chicken Little, willing to race through the streets screaming that President Donald Trump is responsible — wait for it — for the complete destruction of our nation, and all that we hold dear, using mindless, obedient zombies in his administration, identified as “bent spoons.”

With devilish glee on how to defeat Trump, Friedman does not articulate his idea of America, but assumes the reader agrees with it.

With an air of self-importance, Friedman declares he is not ready to endorse a candidate, while offering Joe Biden, the aged professional pol as someone who might deliver “all for one and one for all.”

Tom, I hate to break the news, but Donald Trump did not bring us to our current state of decay, but he did expose things for what they are.

Your idea of a liberal savior to defeat Trump is a non-starter, but you could put your former brilliant mind to re-engineering a dysfunctional Congress.

As for Harrop’s statistic-laden proposal that the Obama economy was superior, she did not mention the millions of retirees who lost billions in income due to dismal interest rates.

Fortunately, Pat Buchanan returned us to sanity the next day with his usual fact-based view of history to disarm the wild eyed alarmists bloviating about Trump tariffs.

Bob Richey,
