LETTER: Common sense tells us gender dictated by biology

Men not women

New U.S. Rep Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., recently complained to USA Powerlifting of their decision to not allow a biological male who identifies as a female to compete in women’s events.

USA Powerlifting responded, “Men naturally have a larger bone structure, higher bone density, stronger connective tissue and higher muscle density than women.”

It is unbelievable that it even needs to be stated, as this is common sense.

Omar can write all the letters she wants to but our gender is determined by biology and males are overwhelmingly stronger than females.

This conflict reminds me of the Hans Christian Andersen fable, “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

In this story, two swindlers come to town and convince the emperor that they have a magnificent new cloth to make royal clothing.

The cloth has the unique attribute that it is invisible to anyone who was unfit for office or just plain stupid.

The king paid a large fee for his new clothing as he would not admit he could not see the fabric and be considered unfit for office and so went naked in a parade.

Finally, a child said, “But he hasn’t got anything on.”

At which point the public agreed.

The emperor, however, continued naked in the parade.

Our culture, politicians and, especially, the Port Angeles School Board is acting like the emperor in this fable.

Everyone knows that a man can’t be a woman, but our School Board continues to pretend otherwise.

And our innocent children continue to be at risk in bathrooms, locker rooms and showers.
