LETTER: Colleague supports Winborn for Clallam County

It has been my great pleasure to get to know Mary Ellen Winborn, her background, her education, her experience, and her passion for good government.

I would encourage all to retain her as director of community development.

I first met Mary Ellen at a planning conference four years ago.

As a former planning director, associate planner and assistant planner for Clallam County, now working for the city of Yelm, I reached out to Winborn at that event to learn what my friends and colleagues were up to and how my community was succeeding.

While always following news from the Peninsula, the amazing place where I learned my trade and (hopefully) made a difference, Winborn caught me up on details of the amazing people and place that is Clallam County.

Since that fateful conference, I have maintained contact with her and have shared experiences, life stories and professional challenges with her.

She is, without a doubt, the right person to lead Clallam County’s Department of Community Development.

I am impressed with her dedication to building a community while balancing the needs of property owners and the public at large.

Her knowledge of history and economics as they relate to building place is amazing.

Her care for people is unsurpassed.

At the heart of community development is balance and an even hand. Winborn provides both, in full measure.

Please retain Mary Ellen Winborn as community development director.

Clallam County deserves the best and brightest.

Grant Beck,
