LETTER: Coast Guard thanks community for support in shutdown

Thank you all

The Olympic Peninsula Coast Guard family would like to convey our profound appreciation for your devotion to us during the recent federal government shutdown.

Your tremendous outpouring of support and generosity was an inspiration to all of us and re-affirmed the reasons why we chose to serve this great nation of ours!

We are all extremely grateful for your unwavering dedication to the important work each of our Coast Guard men and women do while serving our fellow citizens here in the Pacific Northwest.

Religious, tribal and secular references dating to antiquity discuss the meaning of the words neighbor and friend.

In nearly every reference, neighbors and friends are defined as those who show compassion upon others.

Through your actions you have defined what it means to be a true neighbor, thank you!

We are truly privileged to have you as our neighbors and are humbled and proud to stand the watch as your Coast Guard on the Olympic Peninsula.

We will always remain ready, relevant and responsive to the high calling of serving both our nation and our local community.

Semper paratus.

M. S. Jackson

Commander, U.S. Coast Guard
