LETTER: Cheers for using Klallam place names

Using Klallam names

I’m excited the city of Port Angeles voted to rename West End Park to a Klallam name — Pebble Beach Park (English) and sŋaʔŋáʔant cáwŋən ʔəssaqɬúŋt (Klallam) (www.peninsuladailynews.com/news/west-end-park-renamed-in-english-and-klallam).

It’s encouraging that steps are being taken to better weave Klallam language, culture and history into the fabric of daily life in Port Angeles.

Renaming the park to a Klallam name is such a positive act toward that.

It would be great to see the Klallam language on all street signs downtown, and I hope there will be opportunities for a bit more renaming to better reflect the unique and powerful story of this beautiful place.

Kate Coyer,

Port Angeles
