LETTER: Aging agency seeking volunteers

For the past seven years I have enjoyed volunteering on the Olympic Area Agency on Aging’s Advisory Council.

The agency is recruiting volunteers to serve on the advisory council.

It is recruiting two individuals from Jefferson County to serve on the advisory council to represent the needs of elders in that county.

In addition, the agency is looking for a representative who could also be from Clallam County and belongs to a major ethnic or racial minority or has ties to the elder LGBTQ community.

And finally, the agency is recruiting a locally elected representative.

Each of these positions is very gratifying and is for a three-year, renewable term.

The Olympic Area Agency on Aging serves Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties as the safe entry point for elders, adults with disabilities and caregivers to find the services they need in order to age in the place of their choice.

It helps to coordinate services so that many elders and adults with disabilities are able to remain at home instead of a nursing home.

If you need this kind of help, contact Information and Assistance at 360-385-2552 or 360-452-3221.

So why would you want to volunteer?

To learn about these services and to play a role in helping to guide this important work.

To become part of a talented, committed and interesting group of 25 volunteers and staff from around the region.

Please contact Carol Ann Laase in our office in Port Hadlock at 360-379-5064, or laaseca@dshs.wa.gov for more information and an application.
