LETTER: Accusations about group are offensive

Degrades dialogue

The PDN published a letter to the editor which asks about the source of the 5G Space Appeal (www.5gspaceappeal.org) advertisement in the April 12 edition.

The source, the Olympic Peninsula Agriculture Alliance (www.opraa.farm) has been at the forefront of advocating for local food security, urging the removal of barriers to local food production.

OPRAA has challenged ecologically harmful practices like tillage (especially on peat soils) and opposed the use of biocides like glyphosate in our watersheds by conservation groups and the timber industry.

We have hosted film showings, presentations, community discussions and potlucks to engage the public on these issues.

All of this can be attested to by the local farming community, county commissioners, Port Townsend city council members and hundreds of others in Jefferson County.

A committed farmer and ecologist, I am part of a growing number of people in the world awakening to the fact that many of our technologies pose a grave threat to the continuation of life on Earth.

The letter makes offensive accusations that have nothing to do with the issue itself or the well-documented evidence for concern.

The letter exemplifies the degradation of community dialogue that characterizes our culture these days.
