A car test-drive benefit, a free guitar class and an English country dance are among upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Film screening

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library will host a free screening of “American Promise” at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The public is invited to the screening at the library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

According to a news release: “ ‘American Promise,’ co-directed and produced by Michèle Stephenson and Joe Brewster, is an intimate and provocative account, recorded over 12 years, of the experiences of two middle-class African-American boys who entered a very prestigious — and historically white — private school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.”

Test-drive benefit

PORT ANGELES — Drive One 4 Ur School, Price Ford’s fundraiser for Port Angeles High School’s Career-Technical Education leadership programs, will be held Sunday.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the dealership will offer test-drives of new Ford or Lincoln vehicles at the high school, 304 E. Park Ave.

Test-drives are free to participants. The dealership will donate $20 per ride to the high school programs.

The goal is to raise $6,000, which equates to 300 test-drives, according to a news release.

There will be no pressure to buy a vehicle, organizers said.

There is a limit of one test-drive per household. All drivers must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license and valid automobile insurance to test-drive. Car seats cannot be accommodated for this event.

Talk about tour

PORT ANGELES — The Newcomers’ Club will host Bruce Erlwein, who will talk about the Port Angeles Underground & Heritage Tour and its upcoming Haunted Underground tour, during a luncheon Tuesday.

Socializing will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive, after which lunch will be held.

The lunch costs $20 and the program-only fee is $5.

Stand-down

PORT ANGELES — Voices for Veterans will hold its final one-day stand-down operation for the year at the Clallam County Fairgrounds on Thursday.

Homeless in-need veterans as well as their immediate dependent family members can receive a variety of services at the fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St.

Free transportation will be made available by Clallam and Jefferson transits. Veterans need only to identify themselves as a veteran for the benefit.

Attendees can access medical-dental, housing, counseling and employment services, as well as haircuts, food, pet supplies and clothing.

Veterans memorial

PORT ANGELES — A veterans memorial will be orchestrated by local service groups today at 1 p.m.

The Marine Corps League Mount Olympus Detachment Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Patriot Riders and National Guard will convene at Veterans Park on Lincoln Street for the service.

The service is free and open to the public.

Local veterans names will be read, with a replica Liberty Bell rung after each name.

The Honor Guard will fire three volleys and a bugler will play taps, after which a bagpiper will play “Amazing Grace.”

JOYCE

Benefit breakfast

JOYCE — The Crescent Bay Lions Club’s benefit breakfast will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to the breakfast at the Crescent Bay Lions Club clubhouse, 181 Holly Hill Road off state Highway 112.

The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

The menu includes eggs cooked to order, hot cakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, ham, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice.

All proceeds will go to the Crescent Bay Lions for community projects.

Piano trio concert

SEKIU — The Deka Piano Trio will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sekiu Community Center.

The free concert will take place at the center, 42 Rice St., though donations will be accepted.

The trio is composed of Penny Linterman on violin, Marlene Moore on cello and Gary McRoberts on piano.

Benefit rummage sale

SEQUIM — Members of the public are invited to the Sequim High School Choir rummage sale at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The sale will be held in the school cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, until 4 p.m.

Those who wish to drop off items for the sale can do so today between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the school cafeteria.

Gently used clothing and household items are accepted.

Funds from the sale will benefit the school’s Carnegie Hall trip.

Participants do not need to be able to read music but are asked to bring a guitar in working condition. Attendees will be asked to buy a book after the first week.

Space is limited, so instruction is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hove-Pabst, a retired professor emerita of music, has taught guitar in many settings throughout the years, including at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and the former “Haystack” summer program of Portland State University.

• Travel approximately 3 miles west of the Hood Canal Bridge and turn south from state Highway 104 onto South Point Road.

• After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Thorndyke Road (you will see a large sign to Coyle on the right just before the turn).

• Drive 2.7 miles to the driveway on the right with the Chimacum Woods sign (across from an orange newspaper box and two mailboxes).

• Go up the driveway and turn right or park to the right of the gate.

Fruit club gathering
