Luring attempt reported at Port Angeles middle school

PORT ANGELES — City police were investigating a reported luring incident at Stevens Middle School that occurred after wresting practice Thursday.

A 14-year-old boy told authorities that he was approached by a man with greasy brown hair and a mustache who told him he was there to pick him up in front of the school at about 5:30 p.m.

The student wrestler, who did not recognize the man, refused to get into his minivan, said School Resource Officer Jeffery Ordona of the Port Angeles Police Department.

“He approached the kid and told him his mother had asked him to pick him up,” Ordona said.

The man was alleged to have said: “Get in the car. Let’s go.”

“The boy shook his head, and the male said ‘Fine. I’m leaving,’” Ordona said. “He got in a dark-colored minivan and left.”

The boy’s mother picked him up shortly after the incident and reported it to the school principal, Ordona said.

The man was described as being a white male, about 6-feet-tall and 30-years-old with blue eyes, a deep voice, mustache and brown hair with “lots of hair gel,” Ordona said.

He was wearing a red-and-white long-sleeved shirt with its sleeves rolled up, jeans and Romeo work shoes, Ordona said.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to phone Port Angeles police at 360-452-4545. Anyone who witnesses a luring incident should call 9-1-1.

The Port Angeles School District posted information about the incident on its website and Facebook page and placed an automated call to parents Friday.

“At Stevens, teachers talked with students and encouraged them to wait for parents inside the school building or just outside where they are visible through the windows to front office personnel,” district officials said.

Port Angeles police stepped up patrols around the school Friday, Ordona said.
