BUSINESS BRIEFS: First Federal hires new mortgage loan officer … and other items

PORT ANGELES — First Federal has added a new mortgage loan officer to its mortgage lending team.

Melanie Pilgrim was most recently a loan officer with Wallick & Volk in Bellevue.

She graduated from Ventura High School in California and attended Ventura Jr. College, Mesa College and Hancock Community College with an emphasis in math, science, business and phycology, and has completed mastery programs in her field, bank officials said.

She has more than 10 years of experience as a loan officer, officials said.

“We are thrilled to have Melanie as part of our team of knowledgeable and dedicated lenders. She brings many years of experience and expertise, and is passionate about helping every customer. Melanie’s time in the San Diego community has greatly contributed to the knowledge of VA lending she brings to First Federal,” said Ross Thomas, director of the mortgage lending department.

Pro bono session

CHIMACUM — Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will present a free legal-advice clinic on Saturday, Dec. 17, from noon to 3 p.m.

The event — to be held at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road — is intended to help the public address their legal issues in one-on-one consultations with volunteer lawyers.

Attorney volunteers will be available to answer legal questions regarding family law, tenant and landlord, public assistance, estate, bankruptcy, employment and creditor issues.

They also will be able to direct people to local services that might be able to assist them and to explain the legal process to them.

There is an anticipated high demand for this clinic, so attendees should arrive on time.
