DISCOVERY BAY — A Sequim man was in critical condition in a Seattle hospital Tuesday after his Honda Civic collided with a semi truck on U.S. Highway 101 near Discovery Bay.

Benjamin MacQueen, 27, was headed south on Highway 101 at about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in a 1989 Civic near West Uncas Road, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman, when his car crossed the centerline.

The Honda hit a semi truck driven by Kenneth Reynolds, 58, of Marysville.

The wreck and ensuing investigation blocked both lanes of traffic for about an hour and one lane with alternating traffic until about 2:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

MacQueen was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after rescue crews cut him from the mangled Civic, according to State Patrol and East Jefferson Fire Rescue reports.

“I don't believe the truck driver was injured,” Winger said.

A Harborview spokeswoman said MacQueen was in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.

Winger said the State Patrol is awaiting results of a blood-alcohol test on MacQueen.
