Christopher Michael Brown, 35, was charged Monday with one count each of second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and heroin possession.
He remained Thursday in the Clallam County jail on $2,500 bail. His arraignment is set in Clallam County Superior Court.
Port Angeles police gave this account of the events leading to Brown's arrest:
Police received a 9-1-1 call at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday from a man saying that another man, later identified as Brown, had entered his house in the 1000 block of East Park Avenue and was asleep inside.
Officers found Brown on the floor surrounded by a number of the resident's belongings, including a full 5-gallon gas can that had been in the resident's shed.
Brown did not follow police orders to show his hands and pulled syringes out of his pocket as he got up from the floor.
Brown told police he knew the house was not his but referred to it as “the playhouse” and said “hundreds of other people have been there.”
In Brown's pocket, officers found a bindle of a substance later confirmed to be heroin, which officers placed on the hood of Officer Michael Johnson's patrol car while Brown was being searched.
Brown ripped his arm away from Johnson and leapt onto the patrol car's hood in “what appeared to be an effort to consume the bindle of heroin,” Johnson wrote in his arrest report.
Johnson stopped Brown from swallowing the heroin and physically removed the man from the hood of the patrol car.
