Clallam County Fire District No. 3 spokesman Patrick Young said an 18-year-old woman was taken to Olympic Medical Center with serious injuries and a 22-year-old man sustained minor injuries in the one-vehicle wreck.
The people in the car had been helped up the ravine by bystanders before units arrived, Young said.
“It's still being investigated why he went over,” said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.
Winger did not immediately know the names of those involved in the wreck, so their conditions were not known Monday evening.
Young said the vehicle struck an embankment on the south side of the highway and plunged about 30 feet into the ravine.
A photo of the wreck that Winger posted onto his Twitter account showed a white car on its driver's side top in a woody embankment.
The State Patrol, Clallam County Sheriff's Office and Sequim police were investigating.
