The North Olympic Library System will join more than 10 million people worldwide in promoting earthquake preparedness at the libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay, officials said.
Participating for the first time, library staff will lead the drill by making an announcement at 10:17 a.m. asking patrons and staff to “Drop, Cover & Hold On.”
Disaster preparedness materials specific to Clallam County also will be available.
Started in California
The ShakeOut drill originated in California in 2008. The annual drill is now a worldwide event, with most participants performing the drill on the same day, at the same time.
Locations of libraries are Port Angeles, 2210 S. Peabody St.; Sequim, 630 N. Sequim Ave.; Forks, 71 Spartan Ave.; and Clallam Bay, 16990 state Highway 112.
