Search in Agnew area prompted by reported attempted burglary

AGNEW — Clallam County deputies and a Coast Guard helicopter crew sought a man suspected of an attempted burglary but found only his bicycle.

The man was spotted this afternoon, July 19, on the Olympic Discovery Trail on Old Olympic Highway near Lewis Road, said Clallam County Undersheriff Ron Peregrin, after a home owner in the area arrived home and interrupted a burglary there.

The man suspected of the attempted burglary — described as bald, with a light grey goatee, wearing a black shirt or tank top with green or camouflage shorts, and estimated to be between 5-feet-8-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall — bolted into the brush on a bicycle, Peregrin said.

Deputies converged on the area after receiving a call at 12:41 p.m., and a helicopter from the Port Angeles Coast Guard base flew over the area.

“We didn't find him. We found his bicycle,” Peregrin said.

Deputies, figuring he was on foot in the general area, were continuing to check the area late today.

Peregrin said that anyone who sees him should call 9-1-1 and refrain from any confrontation.

“We don't think this guy is a danger to the public,” Peregrin said, “but we wouldn't want him confronted by anybody if they see him.”
