Deadline Thursday for Port Angeles board applications

Peninsula Daily News

PORT ANGELES — The deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday for applications for seats on the city Planning Commission and board of adjustment.

The seats will be open because of expiring terms, said Teresa Pierce, city spokeswoman.

One position is open on the Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission conducts hearings and forwards recommendations to the City Council on land development actions that include preparation of the city’s comprehensive plan, which is the framework for land development within the city, and zoning regulations.

It also has the authority to approve or deny conditional-use permits and shoreline activities, with appeal to the City Council.

Commissioners, who must live within the city limit, are appointed to four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Board of adjustment

Three positions are open on the board of adjustment.

This panel reviews administrative decisions of the community development director concerning interpretation of land-use ordinances and grant variances from provisions of zoning ordinances when it has found that an applicant is experiencing special hardship.

Decisions of the board can be appealed to Superior Court.

Five members

The five members, who must live within the city limit, each are appointed to four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms.

The board meets at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month in City Council chambers at City Hall.

Application are available on the city’s website at www.cityofpa.us/boardscc.htm or from the City Manager’s Office in City Hall.
