We take great pride in this, and since October 2011 we've used "Facebook Comments" on articles to create a more civil environment for conversation and to make it easy to comment on our news stories and share them with your friends.
Hundreds of other newspapers use Facebook, too. And since moving to Facebook (and away from anonymous commenting), we've found that we rarely need to step in and manually remove inappropriate comments.
Most comments from our users are smart and constructive. (Thank you for that. And if you believe a comment violates our User Policy rules [see the bottom of this page], or to report spam or other abuse, click the "Report Abuse" link.)
But sometimes — not often, but sometimes — comments from users will disappear on their own.
Or disappear . . . and then reappear.
There are a lot of reasons, from your privacy settings . . . to users having second thoughts and going back to delete their comments. (You can do this.)
It's rare, but sometimes comments will disappear if we update a story.
It goes with using Facebook, a powerful but sometimes quirky partner. Read more about this in the articles below.
But we have a simple suggestion if your comment inadvertently vanishes: Just repost your message.
(When you submit a comment, it will also appear on your Facebook page if you leave the "Post to Facebook" box checked.)
There are numerous items on the web about 'disappearing' Facebook comments:
