Ronnie L. Bayley, 36, was arrested Thursday for investigation of residential burglary, first-degree malicious mischief and first-degree theft after he admitted that he was the person who broke into the home south of Sequim, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan said.
Investigators used the video to identify Bayley and the mountain bike he used to get to and from the home Jan. 16.
Bayley was released from the Clallam County jail on his personal recognizance Friday.
Formal charges are expected to be filed Tuesday in Clallam County Superior Court.
Keegan said the audio-video surveillance system captured several images of the suspect and his bicycle.
The images were disseminated by the local news media, which led to several tips and possible sightings, Keegan said.
Authorities received an anonymous tip Thursday from a person who said Bayley had committed the burglary.
A background check revealed that Bayley matched the description of the burglar in the video, Keegan said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant to comb Bayley’s residence for the clothing he was wearing in the video and the mountain bike.
The bike was recovered from the residence.
According to the arrest narrative, Bailey was seen in the video pushing a bike up the driveway of a residence on the 200 block of Lakeview Drive five minutes after the homeowners left.
Bayley rang the doorbell, went to the back of the house and allegedly used a log to break through a glass fixture to gain access to the home, Keegan wrote in court papers.
Bayley was seen in the video leaving the residence with the bike and a pillowcase a half-hour after he arrived.
In an interview before his arrest, Bayley told investigators that he uses methamphetamine, and that drugs were the motivation for the crime, Keegan said.
