Hartman will talk from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., Port Townsend, during a free Wooden Boat Wednesday presentation.
Hartman is a 30-year veteran who served four tours of duty in Alaska with the Coast Guard and is now retired and living in
Port Townsend.
He flew helicopters from Coast Guard icebreakers, on rescue and law enforcement missions and managed the search and rescue program on Alaska’s waters.
During his duty as a search and rescue helicopter pilot, he helped save more than 100 lives.
His book weaves together memories of these rescue missions in the face of blinding storms, glacier ice flows and treacherous waters.
During his lecture, he will share his collection of slides as he explains the functions of the Coast Guard.
Hartman’s book is available for sale at the Wooden Boat Chandlery for $19.95.
