No people were known to have been hurt in the shootings, but the banks — both on East Front Street — had minor damage, police said.
The damage was reported Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Investigators believe shots were fired at the banks sometime between Saturday afternoon and the opening of business Tuesday, said Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith on Tuesday afternoon.
Some businesses observed the Columbus Day holiday Monday.
“We are concerned when someone fires a firearm at a building that often contains people,” Smith said Tuesday afternoon.
Smith declined to identify which banks were involved.
Both banks “suffered single gunshots that struck and entered their respective buildings,” according to a written statement released by the Port Angeles Police Department.
The rounds caused minimal damage and appear to have come from the adjacent street, investigators said.
“There is no indication that the buildings were occupied at the time of shootings, and no motive has been established,” the statement said.
Police have no leads in the shootings, Smith said.
Anyone with information is asked to phone the Port Angeles Police Department at 360-452-4545 or North Olympic Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
