Chief Corrections Deputy Ron Sukert identified the inmate as Lavan A. Lukes, 35, who was being held on a domestic violence assault charge in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Lukes was accidentally released along with several other legally freed inmates following a court appearance, Sukert said.
Peninsula Communications dispatchers were immediately alerted and an attempt-to-locate order, or ATL, was issued.
"Efforts by law enforcement have not yet resulted in Lukes' return to custody," Sukert said in a statement today.
"The victims in the Lukes matter have been notified regarding his being back in the community, and a warrant for Lukes' arrest is being sought by the [Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney's Office]."
Anybody seeing Lukes is asked to contact the Clallam County Sheriff's Office at 360-417-2262 or dial 9-1-1.
