About 175 people learned Saturday about The Peninsula is College Bound! scholarship program that offers the promise of up to four years of tuition and $500 per year for books at an approved Washington state college.
Parents and guardians can still register eligible students for the program.
To see if a student is eligible for the program, and to apply online, go to www.hecb.wa.gov/collegebound.
Students must sign up for the program as seventh- or eighth-graders, then graduate successfully from high school, while demonstrating good citizenship.
The amount of the scholarship will be based on tuition rates at Washington public colleges and universities and will cover the amount of tuition and fees, plus $500 for books, not covered by other state financial aid awards.
Low-income students who sign a pledge by June 30 of their eighth grade year are eligible.
Saturday's event was sponsored by the College Success Foundation and Peninsula College in partnership with the Brinnon, Cape Flattery, Chimacum, Crescent, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Queets-Clearwater, Quilcene, Quillayute Valley and Sequim school districts, as well as the Higher Education Coordinating Board.
It included a College and Youth Support Services Fair offered between breakout sessions.
