The boy -- who police did not identify -- was riding his bicycle downhill when he rounded a curve at Tremont and M at Beech streets and was hit by an 18-year-old pickup truck driver, Port Townsend Police Sgt. Ed Green said.
The boy flipped onto the hood of the truck then rolled onto the ground, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Keppie Keplinger, spokeswoman for emergency medical technicians who assisted the boy.
The boy experienced a brief loss of consciousness after the 4:15 p.m. Tuesday collision and was airlifted with a possible "closed head injury," Keplinger reported.
The 12 year old's condition was not known Tuesday night at Harborview.
Green said the 18-year old driver was eastbound and the 12 year old was westbound when the boy "crossed over the center line and hit the truck head-on."
Green said he did not know the name of the truck driver. He said he was not at fault.
The boy was en route to Blue Heron Middle School to participate in a sporting event, Green said.
