Early morning ceremonies commemorating those who lost their lives or helped to save lives, during the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, are planned on the North Olympic Peninsula today.
Gov. Chris Gregoire has ordered flags at state agencies flown at half-staff in memory of the victims of those attacks.
Scheduled today on the Peninsula are:
• United Way of Clallam County will hold remembrances of 9/11 in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay-Sekiu.
In Port Angeles, the service will be at 8:30 a.m. at Francis Street Park.
In Sequim, the remembrance will be at 8:30 a.m. at the flagpole at 815 W. Washington St.
In Forks, the service will be at 9 a.m. at the Quillayute Valley School District administration building, 191 S. Spartan Ave.
In Sekiu, it will be at 9 a.m. at the West End Youth & Community Club.
• East Jefferson Fire-Rescue crews and staff will honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, as well as firefighters lost in the line of duty, at 9 a.m.
The ceremony will be at the Bell Tower, located at the end of Taylor Street in Port Townsend.
Flags will be flown at half-staff for the day.
• Roosevelt Elementary School will present its annual "9/11 Assembly" today.
Participants will meet in the parking lot at the Port Angeles School District school at 106 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, at 10 a.m.
