CORRECTED — Gov. Inslee in Port Angeles on Wednesday; appearances not open to public

Peninsula Daily News

CORRECTION — This story has been corrected to reflect that the topic Gov. Jay Inslee will discuss at Peninsula College is the Advanced Composites Center.

PORT ANGELES — Gov. Jay Inslee will talk about composites and tour the site of the former Elwha Dam after he attends a change of command ceremony at the Port Angeles Coast Guard station Wednesday.

Inslee is not expected to make comments at Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles when Capt. Keith P. McTigue transfers command to Cmdr. Andrew W. Eriks during a morning ceremony, which is not open to the public.

Also expected to attend the Coast Guard ceremony is U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, who represents the 6th Congressional District, which includes the Peninsula.

Rear Adm. Richard Gromlich, commander of the 13th Coast Guard District, will preside over the ceremony.

Inslee later is expected to be part of a discussion about the Advanced Composites Center at Peninsula College that afternoon.

"The governor will be looking at what we have been doing with our existing businesses and also with recycling materials so they don't go into landfill," said Colleen McAleer, Port of Port Angeles commissioner.

Inslee is expected to meet with Peninsula College President Luke Robins and others during the discussion, which also is not open to the public, said Jaime Smith, spokeswoman for the governor's office.

Later Wednesday afternoon, he is scheduled to tour the site of the Elwha Dam, which was removed as part of a $35 million effort to restore fish runs in the Elwha River.

He will be taken to the site by members of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Council, Smith said. The tour is not open to the public.
