The chorale has plucked songs from well-known musicals like “Phantom of the Opera,” “A Chorus Line” and “Chicago” that promise to resonate with fans of the Great White Way, be they old-hand troupers or nouveau.
“Every American grew up listening to Broadway songs; they are ingrained in our culture,” tenor Brian Goldstein said.
The concert runs Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.
“What we came up with is a nice balanced set of songs from shows old and new, fast and slow, silly and serious,” director Leslie Lewis said.
The smaller venue allows the chorale to spice up the performance in a more intimate setting, Goldstein said.
“We're stepping outside our normal concert venue by performing in a small, club-like setting and adding some choreography to the program,” said Goldstein.
The nine-voice group is also departing from its typical a capella performances for the Broadway show, with Lewis taking to the piano to spice up some of the more familiar and up-tempo selections.
“I think the audience will approve, however. The accompanied songs add some pizzazz into the mix,” Lewis said.
Tickets for “Give My Regards to Broadway” are $16 for adults and $12 for students/seniors at the door. Because of the intimate, club-like venue and limited seating, concert-goers are encouraged to reserve their seats ahead through brownpapertickets.com.
