UPDATED — 'Turned out to be nothing,' say police, about anonymous threat that restricted Jefferson County Courthouse access
Aaron Scott Markishtum, 30, remained in the county jail Tuesday with no bail set. He is expected to be charged at 1 p.m. today.
He was booked Friday for investigation of one count each of first-degree burglary and residential burglary and two counts of second-degree burglary.
Detectives with the Sheriff's Office arrested Markishtum, described as a transient living in Clallam County, at about 7 p.m. as he was walking along the north side of U.S. Highway 101 between Carlsborg and Joslin roads, said Detective Sgt. John Keegan with the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies suspected Markishtum in an April 27 burglary of a home in the 1900 block of Joyce-Piedmont Road after a surveillance camera recorded a man matching Markishtum's description at the home, placing an item that looked like a chop saw into the back seat of a silver-colored minivan, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A friend of the homeowner came to the house to find that the door had been kicked open, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said that method of entry linked Markishtum to the burglaries of a home on Freshwater Bay on April 28 and two buildings near Greywolf Elementary
School in Carlsborg — one a garage on Addi Lane on April 28 and the other a home on Edgewood Lane on May 2.
Shoe prints from the size-13 Nike Air Max sneakers Markishtum was wearing when he was arrested were found beneath the knobs on all four doors, Keegan had said.
Detectives later confirmed that a TV and remote, a U.S. Marine Corps non-commissioned officer sword and scabbard, a Skil-brand chop saw and an eagle statue were reported stolen.
Deputies tracked down the minivan, registered to a family member of Markishtum's, and learned the 30-year-old had been using it the past few days.
The family member identified Markishtum based on surveillance images.
