Peninsula Daily News

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble are about to take off for Washington, D.C. — after a few last rehearsals, open to the public this Saturday in the auditorium.

Music lovers are invited to hear the Wind Ensemble from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the Symphonic Band from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Then the Jazz Ensemble steps up to play from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the Percussion Ensemble finishes the afternoon with a stint from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Listeners can come and go or stay all day.

Throughout their “rehearse-athon,” the bands, with 95 student musicians in all, will accept donations toward their travel costs to the nation's capital.

The bands will depart Tuesday morning for a five-day adventure: They will play on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, compete in the World Heritage Festival at Washington's Woodrow Wilson High School, visit museums and monuments, and return home Sunday, April 6.

For information about the Port Angeles High School band program and to contribute to the Washington, D.C., trip, phone band boosters president Mark Urnes at 360-457-4524.
