WEEKEND: Trio to perform in Port Angeles church on Sunday

Peninsula Daily News

PORT ANGELES — The new Deka Trio — 14-year-old violinist Kate Powers, cellist Marlene Moore and pianist Gary McRoberts — will offer an afternoon of chamber music this Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10 for the 2 p.m. performance, which promises piano trios by Franz Joseph Haydn, Cecile Chaminade, Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms.

McRoberts gave the group its name, an alternate spelling for the Greek deca, denoting 10. Powers, winner of the Port Angeles Symphony’s Junior Young Artist Competition a year ago, is the youngest player, while McRoberts the eldest at 72. So “we cover several decades,” he quipped.

For more information, phone McRoberts at 360-417-3029.
